Signs of Deep Snow and High Water on the Farms

Luke, Doug and Gordon on the track of Mr. Groundhog. I think Mountain or Sailor Pearl was in the pipe. As I recall this sette just ended with nothing inside, and no obvious "wall up" where the groundhog had gone to.

The ground was as soft as cake batter from the recent snow, and there was sign of high water flooding all the way up to the fence line along the creek. There were suggestions too that the snow had once been as high as 20 feet along the train tracks. Wow.

On another farm we hit, I talked to Dave the farm manager on the way out, and he said the snow had topped all his fences, and the Angus had gotten out, stopped only by a 20-foot drop at the road where the plow had gone through. Amazing!

The first farm house had a crew repairing gutters, while Dave's farm road was ripped up quite badly from mud, and he said the road plows had taken out some of his fence pushing snow out of the way. Who pays for that? Dave did not know; he was too busy doing repairs!

Dave asked about a fox he had visiting his farm dump. He had had a cow die, and with all the snow no one would come out to pick it up, so he had buried it in the compost, but a fox kept digging it up. Would mothballs keep the fox away? Probably not, I said, but suggested bone meal. For some reason, fox hate it. It used to be one of the active ingredients in Renardine back when that stuff we legal (it's now banned for some reason).
