Red fox in front yard with mange on tail (click on picture for larger image). Note skin and bone at the base of his tail. This is a new fox that has recently appeared -- he's not in good overall condition. The misery of mange will, no doubt, progress and lead to his death. This is how animals die in the woods -- it is not with classical music and a morphine drip, as the lunatic animal-rights folks would have the children believe.
Gray fox in front yard. This is the first photo of a gray fox I have gotten with the camera trap so far. I hope for more some shots of this fellow now that he knows dinner is being served! Gray fox, unlike red, can climb trees as quick as a cat. Though called a fox, and appearing very similar, they are not, in fact, a true Vulpes, and are not too closely related.
