Olive Quackers by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Olive Quackers by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
Everytime we go to the thrift store my daughter is amazed at the junk I find. Like this little cup with green flowers and the little duck. These olives are starting to dry out a little but I figured I could get one more painting out of them. I painted this with a lot of greys and it was harder than it looks.

Hungry As A Bear by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Hungry As A Bear by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
Sorry for not posting over the last few days. I kinda got caught up in the Christmas spirit and family and friends and neglected my blog and my followers. I painted this little bear another of my favorites. His hair is fluffy and he is just plum cute. I find olives and interesting thing to paint so my husband bought me a jar the other day. They are very good and salty too. The fork kinda an after thought. This little dish is the one I purchased at World Market recently and the apple just because I wanted a little more red. I hope your holidays was wonderful as was mine. I was able to visit family and partake of much food. To much I might add. My son Kristopher came from North Carolina with his sweet wife Jen. She is the most amazing cook. She made some of those homemade marshmallows with chocolate and coconut on top you know the kind that you only see on pinterest. My daughter and her friend came and put down new porcelain tile in my kitchen and my youngest daughter just made sure that every moment was wonderful. I think of all of these things and realize how very blessed I am. Life is good and I just want to savor every moment. Thank you for visiting my blog, thanks for all of the kind words and priceless comments. May your year be filled with happiness and just plain good things.

I have been teaching online for about 6 years now. And this will be my last class for a while as I am going to take a break....time to refuel.

The class started on Dec 3rd and runs through Jan 14th, however you can download the lessons and work at your own pace. It's a great class offering lessons in sculpting, painting and working with apoxie sculpt and mosaic…so it's an all around class.
Hope to see you there....

Broken by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Broken by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
Once again I revisit this ornament. If you have followed my paintings for very long you will remember it from last year and maybe the year before. Anyway, I will tell the story once more. Many years ago when I was going through a very rough time in life my sister bought me this special ornament. It was very expensive back then and I loved it more than any other ornament and valued it for years. Last Christmas as my daughter was taking down my tree she said what if I drop and ornament and break it. I said it really doesn't matter except for that special one. About that time I heard the crash of fragile glass and a loud gasp.... I knew in my heart of hearts that it was that ornament. I went into the living room and she just stood there with her mouth open.  I cried...she cried.... gently she swept up the broken pieces and put them in a special glass jar. I could not just throw it away. I got it out today and placed it with my little clear glass snowman. As I arranged the still life set up I decided to put the broken piece on top like a funny little hat. Cute, I thought...

Off The Tree by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
A favorite and a few pieces of peppermint. I found this pitcher at TJ Maxx and fell in love with it it is shiny but has ridges. I am sure you will see more with this pitcher. Also I bought the little white dish next to the Santa with the piece of peppermint in it. The red candle is one my sister gave me for my birthday many years ago. I am trying my best to keep the background smooth to emphasize the objects of importance. 8X10 oil on canvas panel.

In A Cup by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

In a Cup by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
While painting today I found a photo of this little cup with beautiful purple miniature roses. I tried to keep it loose and fun. I think that is exactly what I achieved. 6x6 oil on canvas panel.
contemporary still life artist, fine art, art, rose painting.
So I usually try to keep the post on my blog upbeat and positive but on this one I don't know if I can hold to my standard. This little painting sold as soon as it posted. I was so delighted and shipped it right away. A few days later the client notified me that she was just not happy with the painting. The first photo is the original that posted the second one I washed out in photo shop to show you the differences in computer monitors. When I photograph my paintings I try not to retouch very much except to lighten at times but even so oft times I do have a hard time getting an exact likeness. Anyway I know it shouldn't but it felt like a real kick in the gut. I am a little down right now and wonder if I should change my style or just keep trudging along. I attended a workshop with Qiang-Huang recently and did learn some very valuable information which I will be trying to incorporate into my work to some degree. I guess sometimes it takes a little stumble to make us get up, wipe our self off and with determination keep straight ahead. I suppose that is what I will do.
