The Life and Death of a Plastic Bag
Link
Struggling with its immortality, a discarded plastic bag (voiced by Werner Herzog) ventures through the environmentally barren remains of America as it searches for its maker.
Yeah, I know, a little long, but pretty good all the same. Plus, it's Werner Herzog as a plastic bag! It starts off looking for its maker, but ends up looking for the vortex. And in the end, the plastic bag wishes for just one thing ....
Hats off to Ramin Bahrani who wrote, directed and edited this little masterpiece.

I Suspect One of Us Does Not Really Exist
This is how TV and movies are made today.
Soon enough, we will have "green screen" lives and "blue screen" wives.
Some, I suspect, already do.

Part of the Furniture, Like Her Mother
A hat tip to the wonderful blog "Lassie, Get Help" for this video. Also, check out the wonderful piece on Jon Katz at the same blog.
Getting advice on dogs from Jon Katz is about like getting cooking tips from Jeffrey Dahmer; yes, it's cooking, but .... well, should there be leg bones in the soup?

I'm Cooking the Turkey This Year
God help us all.
If anyone wants to know what it's like, see this old Gene Kranz home movie. Kranz, for those who may not remember, was the head of Mission Control during the Apollo 13 mission. A complete and perfect movie. Enjoy!

Go Ahead - Try to Change the World for the Better
There's no spinning it right is there? In the end, you just end up exhausted for having tried. People are who they are, and they will do what it is they will do. In the end, the best you can hope for is to fence off your own garden and tend it as well as you can. Maybe others will follow by example. That's as good as it's ever going to get.

Message Received, But Not Believed
I am a bit fascinated by film shorts on YouTube, which show some powerful minds at work.
In the film, above, we we have two alien life forms discussing what they found when they followed SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) radio signals back to Earth.
In the film below, we have a simple juxtaposition of life and concerns, framed by time and place.
Neither clip has a damn thing to do with dogs or wildlife, but a brief tour of the short film medium will do you no harm, I promise.
