Out here on the edge of the Piedmont area of Maryland and Virginia, the ground varies dramatically from farm to farm, and even from area to area on farms. This klitter was excavated by a groundhog whose burrow entrance can be seen just behind Sailor, inside the eye-brow-like root of a small tree. The fact that groundhogs dig up and move stones as big as grapefruits is fairly impressive to me. I have seen groundhogs do some amazing things with rocks in this area -- and had to dig out the dogs from such rubble too.
