PETA: People Euthanizing Thousands of Animals

While we wait for PETA's kill numbers for 2008, it's well worth reviewing PETA's kill numbers for 2007, as it's not a pretty picture at this "humane" organization.

In 2007, PETA's shelter in Norfolk, Virginia took possession of 1,997 dogs, cats, and other “companion animals” and killed all but 17 of them -- a 90.9 percent kill rate (PDF).

What's that look like? Well, if the average dog/cat weighs 30 pounds, that works out to be about 30 TONS of dead animals coming out of PETA's shelter every year.

Graphically, it look a bit like this, with the white-on-black animals being the dogs that PETA killed, and the black-on-white animals being the ones they did not kill.

As I have asked before, how is it that PETA is licensed as a "humane" shelter in the state of Virginia when, in fact, they are actually running a slaughter house?
